In February 1936, the Popular Front, a left-wing coalition, wins the elections in Spain. The conservative opposition is organized around the Falange. Thanks to the drive of Rivera's young cousin. On July 18 of that same year, General Francisco Franco led a military uprising that threw the country into a bloody civil war. Spain is divided for three years. Western democracies remain passive, but German Nazis and Italian fascists support Francis unconditionally, in a rehearsal of what would become World War II.
