Paris in August (1966) follows Henri Plantin, a middle-aged married man living a quiet and predictable life as a department-store salesman. When his wife and daughters leave for their summer vacation, Henri remains alone in Paris — a city unusually calm and nearly empty during the month of August.

In this slowed-down atmosphere, he meets Patricia, a young American model visiting Paris for a photo assignment. Drawn to Henri’s gentle and thoughtful nature, she approaches him, and the two begin an unexpected romance. Their relationship awakens in Henri a sense of lost youth and the possibility of a different life.

Throughout the summer weeks, they experience an intense yet delicate love affair, exploring a quieter Paris and discovering deep emotional affinity. But as August comes to an end, reality returns: Henri’s family is about to come home, and Patricia must continue her career. They both understand that their romance, though sincere, belongs to that fleeting moment when their lives seemed suspended.

The film portrays this brief, bittersweet encounter — beautiful, melancholic, and destined to end — while reflecting on love, routine, youth, desire, and the choices that shape one’s life.
