Set during the Russo-Japanese War (1904–1905), the film follows Okane, a woman marginalized by her village, marked by a tragic past and social rejection. Upon marrying Seisaku, a simple and honest man, she finds true love for the first time—but also an obsessive fear of losing him.
When Seisaku is called to war, Okane wages a desperate battle against everything and everyone to keep him alive and away from the battlefield. Love, obsession, war, desire, and destruction intertwine in an intense, disturbing, and profoundly human narrative.
