The Saint

The famous logo of The Saint; it carries an almost magical nostalgia, evoking different emotions and reactions in those who see it. Most remember watching Roger Moore play Simon Templar in the 1960s, driving his white Volvo P1800 on our TVs, while others remember George Sanders in a dusty 1940s movie theater. Old-time radio fans can still hear Vincent Price’s famous voice broadcasting The Saint’s adventures over the airwaves of CBS and NBC, and yet a younger generation may have a vision of Ian Ogilvy, the 1970s fashionista we love to hate, starring in “The Return of the Saint.” The more literary among us will remember a series of books written by Leslie Charteris, which dates back to the 1920s and was still being expanded in the 1980s. Readers of pulp magazines will have fond memories of The Saint Mystery Magazine, as well as other stories published in magazines such as Black Mask, Double Detective and Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. The Saint also ventured into the comics section of our newspapers, fighting alongside Dick Tracy and other Sunday heroes. Simon Templar even had his own series of bubblegum letters, and with a TV series currently in production for the new millennium, one thing remains unchanged: keep an eye out for the Saint's signal, he will return.
